Default Building an Autocross Car

After doing last season in Swift Gti with lowered/stiff suspension, I decided to get serious

Went searching ScumTree for something AWD and eventually found a 1997 Subaru Forester with 6 months rego: not running with 1/2 a tank of fuel & Chilli Peppers Californication CD in the stereo:

Gave it a bit of a tidy up & fitted some second hand rally rubber:

Scrubbed up OK.

Only had a minor hiccup at scrutineering - no blue triangle.
I had driven the Fozzy to work at South Perth & straight to the Motorplex, so had no blue tape.

Reached into the rag bag, and found something suitable:

I'd never driven an AWD car in anger, but it gripped really well on the long curves - the chicanes were a whole other matter. Started getting a bit seasick!

Anyway, with Alex being a no-show I took out the hotly contested 4wd division being the only contender:

Not bad for a $350 car. Oh, forgot to mention that all we did to get it running was charge the battery, top up fluids & dry the wet spark plugs. All within budget!

Now it needs more fasts.
Thinking of welding the rear diff, and maybe welding some bar stock to the springs to reduce roll/height, unless I can find some free springs.

Gut the interior. Get some cheap second hand rally tyres.

"blue triangle" may need some contrasting tape round it, (red or white) to help it stand out.

There's a number of different series going..
Motorplex in kwinana
Then light car club (LCC) run khanacross & other gravel auto tests.
Then I believe south west car club still have their auto cross track down south.
LCC would be your best starting point. Karl lurks around here, and can point you in right direction for next event or they did have a web page..

Buy a shitter with 3 mates & have a fat time..
Front wheel drive for the win
Rear wheel slides gets the grin
Awd used to be ineligible for most.. Could be different now..

That's an awesome pickup. Looks perfect for some bush rally as well :P

Me and my friends buy cheap cars and take them out to a track we have at a mates farm.
I took one of the cars to Beverly once and entered the BORMSA rally event, it was great fun however the distance really put me off going again.

My current farm car is a manual EF wagon, not really suited to auto cross but lots of fun to drift on the dirt.
I recently picked up a S1 Liberty sedan, this is what brought me to these forums.

After reading this thread, I 'll have a look into these more local auto-cross events as that really does sound like fun (without the hassle of travel)....so i might see you out there!

cheers.

Sold this last week after cleaning it up a bit more (second hand windscreen etc).
Now have $1,100 to throw at my other cars.

For those intending to have a bash at it this Summer, the dates will be:
Round 1 - Wednesday 12 November 2014
Round 2 - Wednesday 10 December 2014
Round 3 - Wednesday 28 January 2015
Round 4 - Wednesday 25 February 2015
Round 5 - Wednesday 18 March 2015

The WACC don't update their web site often, so best bet is to check out this Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/SummerAutocross

I'm thinking something FWD and turbocharged for this year...

I'll be there again this year. In either the v6 rx7 widowmaker. Or the fwd Impreza if I feel like running up the front.
