MAP-ECU for AFM delete?

Ok experts...

Looking at going down this road, in order to give the 99-00 AFM the flick, finally . I've had it up to my neck with this thing & I'm not gonna fork out any more $$$ for another.

Searched for the product known as the MAP-ECU on here with no result, surprisingly. Link here. NZ based company, all-up cost for MAP-ECU (version 1) kit is US$399 + shipping from NZ.

Actually looking at this unit for my son's Mk3 Supra 7MGTE, where according to a couple of Supra forums, they are getting terrific feedback. (Mk3 AFM's are nearly as bad as the 99-00 WRX for unreliability).

Subaru isn't mentioned on the website above, but an email to them came back with: "Thank you for your interest in MAP-ECU. The MAP-ECU and MAP-ECU2 are universal and will work in Subaru's. We can provide a wiring diagram if you proceed with a purchase."

Input peoples? Has anyone on here had one installed? I will probably go ahead & get one for the Supe as cheaper alternatives just aint around.... it just concerned me that (apparently) no-one here has used one on their Subi .

BTW, I'm not looking for performance gains (unless that is an unavoidable "side-effect" haha), I just wanna lose the AFM. Car is stock except for 3" TBE.

Sucks that you have to pay US dollars for a NZ product.......Buy it, try it, then become the Aus distributor.

Thought I'd bump this for any more opinions or info. As mentioned previously, I'm not looking for 500+ Kwatw; my sole motive is to delete the #&%&#! infamous 99-00 AFM.

In addition to q's in my 1st post, would anyone have an idea if this unit would need tuning and if so, what $$$ ? Who would even know how to do it, assuming it don't "self" tune out of the box once installed?

Also, looking at the unit & the specs, would this be a piggy-back or replacement ECU?

Thanks peoples :)

looking at the unit i'd say it was a replacement.

if all you wanna do is get rid of shitty afm, there are more options out there...

power fc runs well with a Z32 afm....

or i've heard that Link ecu's are map based

but all replacement/piggy ecu's will need tuning specific to the car and what it is running etc....

Power Fc can run pretty much any AFM with the correct mapping applied.

Z32 AFM is around $500 + power fx @ $1300..... + Dyno $$

But it's known to work...unlike the unit you are looking at.

I doubt any of the tuners in Perth would want to touch it.....due to the risk of the engine going boom. I wouldn't want my car to be the first Subaru test mule!

Z32 AFM's should sell for $280 to $320 last time I checked. Coventys, eBay.......
