Have a look at the Nikon D40 or D40x as well.
I ended up with the D40x myself and was originally considering a Canon 400D. Reason I chose the Nikon was due to the better ergonomics and the much much better kit lenses. I bought the VR twin lens kit with 3 yr warranty for around 1400 after 200 cashback. I'm not sure if your budget is meant to account for all the usual addons (memory etc)... |

A bit on the pricey side considering the stock lenses are shithouse.

Sounds reasonable BUT $100 cheaper from this bloke who lives in Mandurah(??)
http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/prod...oducts_id=1668 Most likely would be same thing and CF cards are getting cheap these days As vyper said, i upgraded lenses (they are ok, but obviously if u spend 1k on a lens it will (or at least should!) be better) so i wasted my money on twin lens kit but if you dont plan on upgrading, Stu would be your best bet. ![]() Oh and canon uses compact flash, Nikon uses SD for the 'prosumer' models (i.e. d40/x, d80 etc.) and CF (or dual SD/CF in some models) for professional bodies. I seriously suggest going into Harvey normans or similar and test the canon and nikon out before you commit. Harveys even offer a 21 day money back + $160 dollar voucher gaurentee on Nikon cameras if you are not happy with it. Both are top cameras so you can't go wrong, but a hands on will help your decision a lot! |
