Welcome to Perth Waterfront, a brilliant development at a spectacular location. Perth was born on the banks of the Swan River, now it is time for that connection to be rediscovered.

It will be a place for everyone - visitors to Perth and people living or working there will all enjoy the beauty and the lifestyle of the city.

crack pipe dreams, the old farts will never allow such a major change to take place.

jEstEr? 25-02-2008 08:48 PM
How will the project affect other major events?

The new waterfront environment will support the major national and international events such as Australia Day fireworks and the Red Bull Air Race by providing facilities for the public before and after these events.
lol, what international events?

IMPRESHER 25-02-2008 08:50 PM

TopGear 25-02-2008 08:51 PM

wont happen look how big of a deal they made over the bloody bell tower!

IMPRESHER 25-02-2008 08:51 PM

Key timings are:

The statutory approval phase would likely take 36 months, however efforts will be made to shorten that timeframe.
Stage 1A development starts with the Esplanade area in mid 2011, together with an expanded Supreme Court Gardens.
Stage 1B is the main waterfront circle constructed between mid 2012 and mid2013.
Stage 2 - Mounts Bay would be developed from 2016.
A full build-out is expected to take 15 - 20 years depending upon economic conditions at the time.

Who is behind this project?
The project is managed by the State Government's property developer LandCorp and will be mainly developed by the private sector under strict development conditions.

This plan has the combined support of the State Government, City of Perth, WA Planning Commission and the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, and is underpinned by a thorough feasibility process.

That's exactly my thoughts. Looks like another Dubai 'concept' drawing.

Cheers,
Nik

Rexxar 25-02-2008 10:38 PM

isnt the one Dubai made out of sand or something...artificial islands?

theprotest 25-02-2008 10:41 PM

Hi,

The 'palm' and 'world' islands aren't really what I was reminded of, it's simply a new age concept which is being thrown around daily in Dubai. Have you seen the new bridge they have embarked on? The world biggest susp. bridge?

Dubai = worlds biggest penis extension...

Cheers,
Nik

TopGear 25-02-2008 10:54 PM

yeah been to Dubai couple times is crazy place!!! they going for the biggest of everthing they know there Oil isnt going to last forever so are creating somthing you wont have anywhere else in the world, tourism and business is what they are after, Although I think Abu Dhabi is a nicer looking Emirate then Dubai. Dubai's biggest building in the world that they are building at the moment which is going to set new records and they are building it so they can add bits on if another building is built taller haha

vyper 25-02-2008 11:04 PM

Can't wait for this to get underway.

Check out this site for other ideas being thrown around:

Perth WILL be a great place to live in 5 to 10 years time - Not like it isn't already. Look how far it has come in the last five years.

TopGear 25-02-2008 11:12 PM

I really like Perth im not moving anywhere quik but they have to stop building apartment buildings that will look outdated in another 10 years.........

jEstEr? 26-02-2008 02:06 AM

yeah, bright purple feature walls at jagged angles are cool now .. but so was brown tiles with lime green wall paper in the 80s

jedi_luke 28-02-2008 01:44 PM
isnt the one Dubai made out of sand or something...artificial islands?
yes its all artificial islands , 4 being built in total now as well as the "world" islands there are building ... looks like a map of the world from space .. to much money much?!?!?!?!

but i dont see this perth one taking off at all or if it does it wont be as cool as it looks on paper, but it would be nice if they gave it a go dow.
if we are lucky one day we might have a star bucks ... thats about it :D

matthews 29-02-2008 08:21 AM

By the time this happens i think we will all be dead and may be our kids can go there.

Riggs 29-02-2008 08:47 AM

It will happen but will look nothing like that pic...

yeah, i did a bit of structural drafting on the 'burj' tower a few years ago, and the jumeriah beach residences, i'm still trying to decide who the fuck is going to live in all these flash houses and aprartments? everytime i see a photo of the palm with all the flash houses there isn't a soul in sight?

must be the bans on porn and alcohol, everyone is hiding inside thier homes:D

TopGear 29-02-2008 02:19 PM

ban on Alcohol????? the palm isnt finished i dont think?? Beckham owns house there and probaly other rich people who only go there few weeks a year :p

ImPreSiV 29-02-2008 02:23 PM

BALISTC 29-02-2008 02:27 PM

This will take around 50 years to complete, if it goes ahead....the construction workers will probably go on strike for 70% of the time.

off topic a bit but I know one DJ that doesn't like Dubai

British drum & bass icon Grooverider was sentenced to four years in jail in Dubai this week for possessing 2.16g of cannabis as he flew into the United Arab Emirates last December for a DJing gig.

Leading figures from the Gulf States thriving dance community said the case has been ‘big news in Dubai’ and predicted wider fallout in the future.

“Everybody knows Dubai is a drug free country but it’s pure intimidation and nervousness when you fly somewhere knowing that someone might ask you to strip just because your eyes are red after a long flight,” one promoter told Skrufff. “It definitely now discourages international DJs from coming here.”

“I definitely think that clampdown on drugs is a good thing but there’s no need for such drastic measures,” he continued. “This is a quote from a well known DJ when I tried to book him: ‘I’ve heard they arrest people for having medicine with them: it’s a bit risky don’t you think? They may arrest me for no reason if they don’t like my face or whatever: so what happens then?’”

The promoter asked to remain anonymous, as did another DJ who revealed that the case has already caused one sponsor to pull out of Dubai’s upcoming Muzik Week conference.

“As an isolated case, it’s unlikely to have an impact but what’s more likely to cause problems is if the UAE keep detaining people who have 0.0003 grams of cannabis on their shoe. You can’t even see it, let alone smoke it,” he pointed out. “Or if they keep stopping people for having three – count them: three – poppy seeds on their person.

“These cases are utterly ludicrous and are being reported worldwide, which can have a seriously negative impact on tourism here, which is important because much of the country’s wealth comes from tourism.

“I feel for Grooverider personally, he’s a big name DJ and by all accounts a cool guy – I can’t imagine what he must be going through being in prison,” he added. “In general everybody is sympathetic with him here, although there are some people mumbling that he should have known better, as his peers have been here many times and they fully aware of the laws, which is true. He should’ve been warned more in advance.”

What?

I've flown Emirates a number of times and gotten well trashed off their well stocked and ample bar on board the planes.

Royal Brunei doesn't serve alcohol though.

TopGear 29-02-2008 04:11 PM

yeah thats not true haha I flew on Emirates and had lots too drink, Muslims dont drink but its not like they push it on you. When I went to Dubai I pulled my suitcase of the conveyor thing and my lock wasnt on the zip anymore so I shat and went through whole bag to make sure noone had put drugs in there!

ORSMREX 03-03-2008 10:28 AM

I dont think there accounting for the increase in our sea levels :p
I dont think there accounting for the increase in our sea levels :p

How will sea level changes affect the Mounts Bay development?

An allowance for possible sea level rise in the coming century is included. The buildings will be around 3 metres above the current day mean sea and river water level. This is higher than some existing riverside developments and will provide additional security against any river flooding of the development.
you know, or maybe they are.

Hopes and dreams...

elemist 19-12-2008 12:53 AM

This is the problem in Perth. We spend so much money developing "plans" and carrying out studies into how a building might affect the migration of the bulgarian swallow, in the event they ever existed in Perth.

By the time anything get's through the red tape 10 years has past, and the project which was relevant and required at the time of concept is now useless and has just cost millions of trillions of dollars.

Too much beurocratic rubbish if you ask me...

vyper 19-12-2008 12:56 AM

Average age is too high. Once the pensioners and older age groups die out we might see more happening.

Bring on the change...Oh, we might all be on pensions by then!
