Making money out of photography

I'm not interested in weddings etc. but as i'm developing my skills I do believe that some photos would sell, at least enough to partially fund my new camera :)

who does any sort of paid photography? how did you get into it? Is it basically selling your 'intelectual/artistic rights' onto somebody else?

any info will be greatly appriciated.

try getting into surf photography.

im no pro at photography but if there is swell and pro surfers around(WA has an abundance of semi pros) you will usually score. A magazine has bought and is planning on using a photo i recently took down south. hopefully the first of many.

Great pics there JZR

Yeah i have been wondering the same thing.

I have ones people love but by the time you enlarge it ($20) then frame it ($50) You would be lucky to sell it for $80 so its not really worth it :(:(

I need $$$ for my new lens $1100 :(

cheers mate. that photo involved a jetski, a fisheye and an underwater housing.

a few mates have websites were the public can buy photos i would probably pick that way as you wouldnt need to print and wait for a buyer. when someon sees something they like they order it and bang you print it.

this is a close friends website.

Try contacting Holtz, he's apparently got a large portion of 'experience'.

I shoot a fair few events. Mainly corporate awards nights and gala dinners etc. I got into it through my brother who owns an events company. Once you get around enough people in the industry get to know who you are, what your style is and how much you charge. I only shoot for two companys mainly and there are a fair few of them around. Generally I shoot for $100-$150 an hour + processing. Min 2 hour shoot. I hand over all the photos minus double ups and duds. If its a bigger event I might charge more as I'll take more gear and maybe an assistant.

Some of my recent jobs are here.

to sell prints at a profit you'd have to have your own printer and do your own framing.
probably best to sell to a mag, or start taking photos of babies at a shopping centre :P
