Seems as though Speilberg and Hanks got together yet again to make a new series, called "The Pacific". Following the Marines around the Pacific Theater of Operations, something I can only assume was inspired greatly by the Flags of Our Fathers/Letters From Iwo Jima popularity.

I will be sitting anxiously awaiting the release of this, and am glad they are straying away from the whole "D-Day/European Theater" genre that has been ever so popular. Now if someone will make a series about some of the "opposing" sides, such as the Wehrmacht, SS, or even the Fallshirmjager? One can only dream

Set to be released sometime in 2010.

sorry if this is a repost, searched and came up with nothing

It's a shame that Stephen Ambrose died the year Band of Brothers came out. It would have been great if the second installment was based on another one of his books. Still can't wait.

Two memoirs in fact "With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa" by Eugene Sledge and "Helmet for My Pillow" by Robert Leckie. It'll also feature stories about a guy called John Basilone who won a Medal of Honor among other awards.

Its about time! I remember hearing about this shortly after Band of Brothers was released. That must have been about 2002???

Really looking forward to this. Band of Brothers is my all time favourite show/movie whatever. Absolutely brilliant. I swear I must have watched the whole series like 20 times.

Quite right, Tom Hanks even directed one Episode, Which in my opinion was the least best executed episode (Crossroads).

Thanks for the info Jesteroflwtfbbq. I actually didn't know this was coming out, and I'm such a fan of BoB too. Can't believe I missed it!

Capt. Obv: yeah BoB was around 2002 and like Autopilot said, Hanks directed the episode Crossroads. I thought Crossroads wasn't too bad though. I liked the whole "from Winters' thoughts" perspective.
