Home Theatre Systems
I need a bit of advice on what's good and what's not. Have had a look at a few speaker setups but not sure on what's value for money etc.....I already have a receiver so just need a 5:1 setup to go with it as not looking to spend a fortune but want something worth the dollars. Really after a free standing system, bigger drivers etc... Here is a few I have looked at, thoughts?
Any feedback on this one would be great OM950 http://www.accusound.com.au/omega.html BOSE ACOUSTIMASS 6 S3 SPEAKER SYSTEM Not free standing but its Bose? http://www.soundadvice.net.au/Bose_Surround_Speakers.htm This is nice but the most expensive of the lot http://img693.imageshack.us/i/psbalphabrochure.pdf/ Not sure about this one but it's cheap http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en/products/rc-micro-overview/ |
stay away from BOSE...
I auditioned quiet a few systems around the 2k range for 5.1 I ended up with a Jamo S606 5.1 system - got it for $1100 from Harveys in the end. Best sound by far. |
Stay away from cheap and nasty shit like Accusound. 8ohm, terrible sensitivity, rubbish sound.
BOSE are overpriced and wankery. Decent, but only purchase if you can get a really good deal. Energy and PSB are quite nice speakers for the price. Might help to state a budget before people start dropping brand names. |
Cheers guys, budget around $1500, the receiver I have is a Pioneer VSX 918. I saw in another thread you recommended that system too Tode. Might check it out.
I just got quoted $3k for the Jamo system without the amp???? |
Will you be using this system to listen to music as well?
Personally what I would do (and what I have done) is use the $1500 to buy a pair of entry level front towers and a decent sub. Use cheapies for centre and rears if you really need surround sound. I would much rather listen to a nice 2.1 system than a cheap all-in-one satellite speaker package. |

Also tried more expensive stuff but i'm quite happy with this. Obviously there are better but for the $1k-$2k range this is more than enough. I absolutely love the bass...you're more than welcome to come and listen to my setup Jaron. Having a look at their webiste i've got these: http://www.accusound.com.au/theta.html love the subi and not sure of the prices on their website...i got mine around $2k for the whole system (2 fronts, 2 back, centre + sub) from harvies |
Cheers Pete!
I am waiting to hear back from HN regarding the Jamo S606, hoping to get close to the deal Tode got :D Went to HN Cannington and the lowest they'd go is $2.5 on special that's without the Amp ($4k with the amp). |

That's fine, everyone's ears are different. I will say though, the Accusounds that you have are far better spec'd than the entry level Accusound speakers that were posted earlier, and the entry level ones I've auditioned ;) |
Looks like it has come down to these 2.........great prices on both.
Klipsch is $300 more http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/f-2-home-theater-system-overview/ or the Jamo S606. Haven't heard either of them, will go and check them out tomorrow. Cheers for all your help guys! |
I've got Energy speakers, have had for the last 5 years and they still sound fantastic. They weren't that exxy either.
|
When I was buying it was between the klipsh and jamo...
The Klipsh is more bassy - but the Jamo's clarity is fantastic. easy choice in the end. |
Yeh I actually prefer the look of the Jamo too and if thats the case then would prefer it sound wise as well, will wait and have a listen then see if I can wait for a Jamo to come in as there is none in stock or more than likely say fuk it and get the F2.
|
I've been a huge fan of Denon with B&W speakers ever since I worked in a home theatre store many years ago.
|
Bought the F2 :) Sound is unreal!
Thanks to Danny at Malaga HN I got it for the right price too :D Thanks for your help guys. |
Anytime mate glad I could help you out. Also glad your happy with them was a good choice they are by far one of the best speaker packs I have ever heard. I like the Jamo speakers but there some fine details of sound that the F2's and the F3's can pick up that they cant.
Cheers Danny |
no likey the Jamo's?
|
Yeh I do like them specially the way they look very nice looking speaker and great for music specially music but for movies still prefer Klipsch.
|
no likey the Jamo's?
I didn't actually end up listening to them in the end as there was none in stock. I am an impatient bastard and couldn't wait :D |
couldn't wait 2 extra days and talk to my guy either could ya!!
no hookups for you anymore.. |
I very much doubt he could have bettered Danny's deal mate :) I did tell you I was impatient......

Can vouch for Onkyo receivers. I have the flagship receiver of that generation. Has been awesome.

Yamaha or Onkyo, can't go wrong

Just thought I'd also ask for advice.
I currently have an infinity classia speaker system with a harmon kardon avr 630. I've been looking at denon x3100 & onkyo 636 any thoughts as I'm looking at bi- amping Cheers |
Jaron - John West
Lance - bi-amping, while it doesn't hurt (I do it) hasn't really been noticeable to be honest. I would go Denon > Onkyo > HK (out of the above shopping list) |
