Default Ryan's Photography thread

So I've kind of dominated the photo gallery thread these last few months, with that in mind I thought I'd make my own thread where I can share photos taken of member's cars and also any other subjects that take my fancy.

I'm not looking for critique as such, but feel free to let me know if you like my work and PM me if you have any suggestions.

All photos can be found on my facebook page, feel free to like, share etc ; RSK Photography

Most of you have seen my shots of Bird's Dad's Evo so I'll skip those and start with a few taken of Chev's MY11? WRX on Saturday. I must say I was really nervous about shooting a black car, especially after sunset but so far I'm really happy with the results!

Thanks Dave!

I'm using a D800 w/ 24-70mm f2.8 at the mo with lighting gear and a car rig.

Waiting to sell the rest of my Canon lenses so I can buy more Nikon gear... I'm a bit limited at the moment!

Speedlight + softbox (or similar) and walking around the car popping them off with a 30 sec exposure?

Nearly Craig, soft box with a constant light source and these were composited 8-10 second exposures. It's a ridiculously simple setup but I love the effect. Speedlights don't work well on black car bodies I don't think, although fine for rims/details or lighter coloured cars.

Have been meaning to take a decent picture of the rig but haven't managed yet. Was going to do a setup shot at tonight's shoot but had to cancel for family reasons.

Bit of an update; managed to get some more of my canon lenses sold and have put the cash towards a pair of these bad boys:

The AB800's are a staple favourite amongst the "strobist" movement and I can't wait to test them out! Unfortunately they're not due to arrive for another 4 weeks at least, so I'll be making do with speedlights and light-painting for now.

Two more shoots planned for this coming weekend but no WRX's this time; a white Mazda3 MPS, and an Orange/Black custom paintjob Evo 7, fun times!

I have focussed on learning the new camera (going from canon to Nikon is like trying to teach a bogan to speak Japanese) and now that I'm comfortable with it I'll get more use out of the rig.

Must say I have reservations about dangling upwards of $5k worth of camera and lens off a 6m pole attached to a moving car! What's the saying...he who dares wins? ...or he who dares cries when everything smashes on the concrete
