meegapixels are useless and i was skeptical at first but the results speak pretty clearly judging from the reviews. And also it compresses it down to 5MP size. But staying on topic, i think the new iPhone should be ok. They are generally fast and quality is pretty good, which is all that matters in a phone to get those moments imo.

Lets see here.
Z1 has a bigger sensor size than the iPhone 5S (1/2.3" VS 1/3.2")
Wider aperture (F2.0 VS F2.2)
better video recording should you need it (1080p VS 720p)

I really don't see a good reason to get an iPhone when Z1 is here

This is my gaming friend, Kylan, he reckons the 5S is best.

I love the flexibility of the HTC One. I can get photos in poor light on it that I couldnt even dream of on my old Samsung or my gf's iPhone. I also like the burst mode on it (which I know a few have now).

Wow, only just became aware of this phone. Looks like it is the new android flagship.

Just checked the pricing of a 32gb iPhone 5s and the Xperia Z1. $19 vs $7 handset repayment respectively on an Optus $60 plan. Seems like the Z1 is a clear winner on all fronts here.

Might be my next phone since contract is almost up. Sorry for the thread hijack. BTW I am no apple lover. Been through all three main OS, currently on WP8 and I am very much liking it. But as always, we all want the latest and greatest and the Z1 seems to be a good choice at this stage.
