Agreed Burke.
The worst place for puppy farm dogs is Mount Lawley Pets and Puppies. Remember that these designer style dogs can go for as much as $3-4k! A french bulldog for instance! People get attracted to that and keep the bitch pregnant and living like crap. They dont bring you to that house to show you the puppies though. Puppy farms are everywhere in perth. Its terrible. Cute puppies. As Labradors are a breed that has many inherited conditions like hip displasia and retinal diseases it's best to be using registered animals that meet the breed standards in body, temperament and health. To be registered I'm pretty sure the bitches and males have to be DNA'd to ensure they don't carry certain genetic disorders as well as meeting the breed standards as Andrew stated. The best way to become a registered breeder is to purchas a male and bitch that are registered and come with their papers. There are also two types of Labradors. The 'show' type and the 'working' type.
My Guide Dog is a purebred black lab and is from one of the 2 approved breeders of Labradors for the Guide Dog program in WA. There are a couple of chocolates in training through the program at the moment. ETA: Coat colour is a genetic trait. Simply breeding two chocolate labs together won't guarantee all puppies from the breeding will be chocolates. Many parents will produce a variety of black, yellow and chocolate in one litter. To guarantee that the breedings will produce 100% puppies of a certain colour the dogs used have to be homozygous for that particular colour, meaning that each parent has two copies of that particular colour and don't carry the genes for the other colours. There's a couple of places around that test for genetic disorders and colours.

Wouldn't have a pup with young kids Jamie. Labs are pretty boisterous and require a lot of work until about 2 years old. They are a working dog breed so need a lot of stimulation otherwise they become bored and destructive. They are however loyal, loving, and trustworthy. Not to mention labs are mobile garbage disposal units lol they will eat just about anything.

Wow, so much butt hurt and random pointless posting.
Why are we talking about caged, abused dogs/puppy farms in here? Cute pups. Labs are great dogs, good luck with finding them a loving home!

Labs can be a bit like Heelers with food. They both usually love their food and can be easily overfed, not that Mum and Dad looked this way.
TBH were talking about puppies, and our dogs, and I'm including one who passed almost a year ago at 15, do and should be considered part of the family (and are our kids) Puppy farms are bad, yes, but that doesn't mean the pup is bad. The dog we are left with, who is almost 15 herself, was rescued from the front of South Hedland Centrelink. Vets guess she was 4-6 weeks old and easily sat in your hand/shirt pocket. (She's a terrier cross hinze 57 variety dog) I like the idea of a parent scented blanket, provided, photos of the dogs are one thing, but the interaction between the parents, the pups and the potential owners is another. Watch the behavior of all the dogs. Its not that hard to pick up insecurities with new surroundings IF the dogs don't normally live at the address. Potential owners, remember your not the dogs friend, your the pack leaders and need to establish yourselves as such. Bit of tough love (Not cruelty but harsh loud words, NO, had slapping a rolled up newspaper into your own hand to make a loud noise) You'll end up with a happy healthy pack, and unfortunately the saddest day of your life when you loose your mate. But so many great days before that.

Missed your post earlier, they are sold entire. The most appropriate age to get them de-sexed is around 5mths. Unless you plan specifically to breed them (appropriately of course), it minimises the risk of prostate cancer in males & uterine & mammary gland cancer in females.
