TT01 Drifter Survival Guide with HopUp List
So since a few of you have your TT01's now, and Mitch and I being at the point where we need to rebuild ours, I figured it was a good time to go over Hop-Ups.
Aluminium Driveshaft Lighter weight, more rigid, more power from the motor is going to reach the front wheels. 3Racing, Alum. Main Shaft (LB)Tamiya TT-01 ,(TT01-03) Ball Bearing Kit The kits ship with plastic bearings in them. These quickly begin to warp under heat and stress, and sometimes begin to melt onto the chassis. for 1:10 Tamiya TT01 & DF02 RC Touring #YB0082MX, ,(YB0082MX) by Yeah Racing RC Ball Bearing Set with Bearing Oil Camber-adjustable front upper arms Better grip for steering through corners due to the unbalanced weight of the car. Dont worry about camber on the rear, we want that to slide out all over the place. , #TTR-125BU ,(TTR-125BU) by Yeah Racing Aluminum Front Upper Arm Front One-Way Differential Effectively gives the car a hand-brake ability when you back off the throttle, throwing the car into tighter turns much easier. for TT01, Front One-Way Unit ,(53671) by Tamiya Locked Rear Diff Stops the slop on the rear wheels when drifting, helps to keep a steady drift. for TT-01, Alum. Solid Axle (LB) ,(TT01-25/LB) by 3Racing Carbon top-bar Increases overall stiffness of the chassis. for TT-01 (BK), Graphite Upper Deck ,(TT01-17/WO) by 3Racing Oil Filled Coilover Kit Much better suspension than the cheap nasty plastic one shipped on the car. Comes with Soft/Medium/Hard springs which can be adjusted at your whim. A standard fit-out is soft front, hard rear. for 1:10 Touring #DP-0001SV, ,(DP-0001SV) by Yeah Racing 50mm Aluminum Damper Set (SV) Fast Steering Servo Having a faster steering motor allows you to corner much more effectively. The stock motor is slow and noisy to turn from lock to lock. Upgrading the servo even to a $30 job makes it virtually instant. for 1:8 / 1:10 RC Touring Car/Boat BMS-621MG, ,(BMS-621MG) by Blue Bird High Speed Metal Gear Servo (Free Shipping) Balance weights Put some extra weight onto the front sponge of the car. Due to it being a rear motor chassis, it takes a fair bit of grip away from the front wheels, so use the weights to balance the car out again. Yeah Racing, Balance Weight ,(YA-0188) |

Nice Work Cam!!
I've since fitted a 9T Hobbywing Brushless motor and ESC to mine which has created a few issues. My TT-01 is actually too fast with slicks on.. First it threw the tyres off completely from 2-4 of the rims.. re-attached Glued on wheels, it then tore the teeth from the spur gear.. fixed that... worked out once the tyres heated up I couldn't turn at full speed without putting the car into a barrel roll.

Its not quite the same thing, but it is possible to setup a counter-steer system by getting the 3Racing Ball Differentials, and then buying the custom Diff Gears with more or less teeth on them to change the drive ratio between front and rear. |
