Apparently looks like it has no speedo sensor, so its more suited for someone wanted to upgrade their liberty 5 speed, or running a track car where a speedo isnt critical, or running some sort of electronic speedo.

Comes with matching R180 LSD, hybrid shafts to suit R160 rear end, tail shaft, slave cylinder, front shafts if needed (box has female front diff), starter, clutch and flywheel.

Is it the liberty 5 and 1? or a true 6 speed?

What's a 5 and 1?

A Liberty 6 speed sometimes described as a "5+1" as it's not considered a "true" STI 6 speed, for technical reasons, arguably around its toughness and durability in direct comparison to a 6 speed out of an 05 STI for example.

May or may not be true, but I am keen to understand the differences for everyone involved. From what I can tell, the only difference on the Liberty 6 speed is that it has a taller 5th and 6th for cruising reasons.

The 5+1 Liberty 6 speed that TJ speaks of is fitted to the current Liberty and Foresters. It's a smaller gearbox, split case like the old 5 speed but with an extra gear and cable operated shifting.
The previous generation Liberty had the STI derived 6 speed (the proper big one) but without DCCD and without a provision for a speedo drive. The 3.0 H6 had close ratios, the same as a 2.0 litre WRX STi, the GT spec B had a unique wide ratio set, not just 5th and 6th but all the ratios are taller. EJ25T WRX STi and Forester STi had the close ratio 1-4 but slightly taller 5th and 6th.

Sounds like 5speed + overdrive that I used to have in a car 15 or so years ago, be stuffed if I can remember what it was.

We had a prick of a time getting it off the hilux, as opposed to a five speed that you can lift and carry by yourself...

As the for the forester/liberty thing, I think it's the other way around.
The code on the box that you put in my narnie comes up as forester box with every gear taller.
And the one on my floor says standard 1-4 with tall 5-6.
