After market ECU

Ok looked around at other threads and couldnt fine 1 that would help me.

As sum of use know thinking about buying a wrx at the end of this year (hopefully). thinking about buying either 97 or my99 wrx depending on the prices at the end of the year if the 99 have gone down to around the 15k range i'll probably by one of those.

well anyways ive bin righting a list of things i wont to do to it, yes i no thats a bit lame but i like to plan ahead. so i was just wondering wat ECU i would get the most benifits out of without going over board with price.
just write wat ECU and price and if u got any info, that would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Ok obviously you wouldnt have searched because there are numerous threads on this. Even a whole sub-thread section on ECU's. Firstly you have not told us what you will using the car for (track, normal driving, brego, rally, burning it) and the chance of a my99 (in good condition) going to 15k is unlikley.

It can be really hard to find something, especially when it is right in front of your eyes...

Bah,
some one asks for info and the clowns start howling...

Q: What is a hard question?
Ans: One you don't know the answer too.

Discussion is now open. If your not interested select another thread, simple. Notice i never used the words fuck off once :tongue3:

Options that suit a 97 and a 99...? Power FC has been used with good results on a 99, I have no first hand experience with them so I can't comment. Unichip will get you to about 85% on both models whilst retaining all the benefits of the OEM ECU...knock control and all that other luverly stuff subaru built in. Not even Motec has knock control in it's basic format, I have a 99 with M800 :( but 12.8 Qtr with TD04 :D

Link is also another option but I have never heard of anyone getting better fuel consumption and performance than my old Unichip. Not sure when Brett gets out, he was a good tuner ( she looked a lot older apparently) Proven performance with a Unichip for 4years, made 13.1 Qtr with about 151kw atw/TD04. My Autronics created error code issues and a similar level of performance given a quality tuner.

Any other experiences appreciated, especially if anyone is using a Power FC. Apparently you can use the GTR skyline AFM, removing the Achilles heel of the MY99. Plus it is user programmable, unlike the Unichip. Both are fairly affordable second hand, way less than $1K

Its not the fact he is asking the same question, its the fact he is obviously lying that pisses me off. PowerFC first hand is a great ecu for daily driving track however with the on/off throttle response issue im not so sure about.

I'd steer clear of Unichip (or any piggyback solution) given the affordability of the other options these days.
