V5 ECU is totally different plug wise to the 97 model, which is a V4
Not compatible at all

I have a V5 STi ecu myself that I've been wanting to drop in to my 99WRX but when swapping the wires. Do you need a special tool to swap the wires or just pull them out and pop back in ?

if you have AUDM wiring looms, then you will need to swap A5/A6 wires cam/crank over to make a JDM ecu work.

providing the wiring looms are JDM, then you can use JDM ECU's,

I have done an engine swap from my my99 evo2 engine with a my00 sti engine and ecu but the J2 sti ecu won't fire my fuel pump. My original ecu E3 will start and run fine… Any ideas? i used my original wiring harness so i'm assuming i will need to do A5/A6 pin swap but not sure about the fuel pump? Any help appreciated :)

Do the same pin swap as required for a 99/00 power FC - Google "WRX Power FC pin swap"
