Putting V5/6 STI Ecu in 99WRX with VF28

Hi everyone, I have just bought a 99 WRX GC8 which I thought was factory except for the 3" TBE & Frontmount intercooler.

Upon closer inspection today I have discovered that the turbo is infact a VF28 and not the factory TD04, however it is still the factory ECU and is NOT remapped or tuned in anyway.

My question is, If I get a hold of a version 5 or 6 STI Ecu, am I able to swap my stock WRX ecu for this? The thought being, the V5/6 model STI runs the VF28 as its factory turbo which would mean I don't need an aftermarket ECU & retune.

What would I need? Standard injectors from a V5/6 Sti also?

Thanks!

P.S. I am trying to do this as cheap as possible as this is an unexpected cost but would also love to keep the VF28 rather than revert to do TD04

Have you checked to see if the ECU has already been swapped ??

It has yellow injectors now ?

This is a very old car, possibly worth around 3 to 6 k now days. Leave it as it is and drive it. IMO it's possibly one of the most reliable cars around. I have had many over the years. The old 2ltr just keeps going.

I commented on the cost of the car being mindfull on a replacment motor cost.

These appear to just keep going with std boost, good oil changes, coolent. If you blow it up you will soon find out the true cost of replacing the motor

Standard is best

Two wires need to be swapped to run V5/V6 ecu. I'm just not sure which two. Someone on this forum should know.

Should be a red and white wire sitting in a pair together, from memory it's cam and crank position but could be wrong

Bruno is on the money. Cam and crank sensor wires need to be swapped around. I had this issue on one of my first Subarus. I had an Apexi power fc fitted after an STI engine swap and it needed doing then.

You also need to swap the fuel pump wire to the non-immobiliser pin (refer to ECU pin diagram), else it wont start.

I ran V6 ECU on standard EJ205 WRX, dropped in a VF24, upped boost to 17psi with an electronic boost controller, and it went like a rocket.
