Default TV Antenna Experts

Hey All,

Just lately, our reception has turned completely shit on all channels.

Actually, it is so shit that we only get 10 and 1HD and both are pixelated.

I just took a squiz in the roof and I have a Hills 4 port booster box. Off of that I can see 3 splitters, that are running to different areas of the house for other antenna points. I have checked all the connections, they are tight (F Connectors by the looks of things). I power cycled the booster and disconnected all the splitters and had a direct connection to one TV just in case the splitters were degrading the signal. This made no difference.

If I turn the booster off, I lose 10 and 1 so I know it is working to some capacity.

I have also checked the obvious and I still have an antenna on the roof

Anybody got any suggestions?

Cheers

Dan

I had a similar issue a while back.

Turned it off and disconnected the antenea altogether. Go into the menu and do an auto tune. This should wipe all your old channel locations.

then plug the antenea back in and do a search again. The guy I spoke to said it seems to work better if you don't already have the channels set when tuning or it tends to just select the same frequencies.

We had a booster installed which worked perfectly for around two years before it commenced to die and cause the signal to cut in and out. I ended up replacing it and didn't have a problem thereafter. It sounds like your booster is working [to some extent] so it may not be the cause but if you don't find a solution, it may be worth trying another booster in there.

Thanks guys, Meatbag, I did that trick, but instead of turning off the booster, I just pulled the antenna cable from it.

I think MY99 you may be on the right track, I think it's on the way out

Just get yourself a new 'digital' antenna Dan. Ring Antenna Masters. They are the best priced and will get you a perfect signal. I was very happy with their service when they did my place, and my Mum used them too recently, and she was also very happy.

Check the antenna hasn't lost any of the elements. Big birds + older plastics = elements lying in the gutter.

Also one of the other things that kills boosters is when birds chew through the cables and water gets in.

When I was installing them down here for a couple of years we used to put black polypipe ( buy 10 metre rolls for cheap from bunnings ) over the cable all the way from the f type at the antenna to just where it touches the roof. Little bastards love the coating.

Roof mate all the way. To much interference inside.

Plus I use to install roof mounted digital antenna with one point on cavity wall. Single story house for $169
