Exclamation Crankshaft Position Sensor EJ20 ?

Gday,
My car is stuck in a Public car park in the inner city with a suspected crankshaft position sensor problem.

Does anyone have a Crankshaft Position Sensor for an EJ20 WRX/STi lying around I could try ?

I think they are compatible across the years. I have a EJ207 engine.

cheers
Jamie. :-)

how did you go jamie? you can capture ref/sync with the motec v3 software, should determine whether its a sensor issue...

Unhappy

Hi Stace and Rich,

Unfortunately I don't have any leads for my M800 to my Laptop so I'm out of luck there with diagnosis.
Help would be definately be appreciated if anyone has the gear.

I have tried already to replace the sensor with one I had lying around here, unfortunately the plastic plug guides don't line with the clip on that sensor.

I've had cutting out/stalling issues when the car is hot and intermittant rough idling.
Also first starts in the morning, the car cranks and has been instantaneously firing.

It sounds very much like issues Rich has had in the past from doing a wee search.

I have already had a Crank Sensor fail on my old MY99 EJ20 too. And I suspect the old 2nd hand replacement sensor that I used has gone onto this new engine and failed as well.

J

My issues turned out to be Brant .. without knowing your car, it's not your alarm being a dog is it? I think the crank angle sensors are not too pricey, even from Subaru directly. So it won't break the bank to try a brand new one.

If it's cutting out when driving and such, intermittant issue, as some people have painfully found out, you can spend thousands diagnosing those issues.

Assuming:

- You are getting electrical power
- You are hearing the pump prime

Just not cranking at all at the moment? If you can bypass your alarm completely for a few weeks and see how you go, that would be my advice - Unless you can get some leads for your motec and do some diags that way.

As you would have seen in my threads, I pretty much did all the below:

Crank Angle Sensor
Better Earths
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Sparkies
Clean U98
Coilpacks
Checked ECU for CEL's (none)
New Battery
Checked Alternator
Drove around with a datalogger for 3 weeks ..

And yeah, was Brant control module - Fucked capacitor in there visibly burned out.

Cheers. Rich.

Alarm Bypassed. And its not a Brant.
Walbro Fuel Pump Primes when ignition switched on, I can hear it.
Sparkies/Fuel pump less than 2 years old.
U98 RON only.

I'm going to check the coilpacks tomorrow to see if I get a spark across the gap when cranking the car.
If not its a new Subaru Genuine Crank Angle Sensor.

Failing that flat bed to my house - go on Holidays - buy/borrow/steal a USB Lappy to M800 cable connector and capture ref/sync and look at the logs with Motec software.

(With instruction hopefully from the Fishmonger or a Guru on here)

hey jamie,

missed your call, sorry- i dont have any motec equip in perth atm either!

i would check the obvious stuff like whether your coil pack is throwing an arc (remove the coil leads) and watch for the sparks, any then whether you are getting any fuel all the way to the injectors (make sure you havent got a clogged filter)
