Default Wanted older model Forester

Ok so Mark and I are looking at getting a second car so that when his car is off the road he has something to get around in, something we can use to tow, take down the beach etc and if CAMS permitting I can get a track licence - for me to take out on the track once every now and then.

What we are looking for is a Foz preferably auto which can tow 1400kg braked (Must be able to tow a loaded horse float which comes to approx 1200kg depending on size of horse).

ETA: Some advice on which models to look at would be appreciated as well as comments on Turbo over NA, Petrol over Diesel vice etc etc

Do not buy a Forester to Tow with they are shite had three one n/a 2.0 one n/a 2.5 one turbo 2.5 towed with all three whether or not it being a 400kg jetski to a ~1350 boat or 1200kg caravan. Let alone an Auto 4spd FTL. They don't come in diesel until late 2009 and they are only Manual. Just FYI. Look at getting a Toyota Hilux Diesel or a Nissan Navara if you want to tow any sort of weight at all.

Have you seen our parking spot Phil? Hard enough to get a sedan in there let alone a huge 4WD! Um yesterday my friend and I towed my 450kg horse up from Pinjarra to Freo with a 99 forrie with no problems

You're driveway was definitely not designed with AWD or larger vehicles in mind...
I'd be looking for some sort of turbo diesel for towing.
If you wanna get out on the track why not just use Marks? Much better setup for it than a stock auto Forrie.

My 2c worth

Yep we have been talking about getting a 4wd for the last 6 months or so Daz. Um do you really think Mark would let me drive his baby? Besides as I said want something smallish that has towing capacity and can go offroad. Something like a Navara or Patrol are not small nor are they economical.

My Foz has towed ~1000-1200kg a few times and was fine. Obviously you know the trailer is there but it was a far cry from shit at towing it. Have also towed our dinghy a bit which is nothing (Not sure what it weighs, maybe ~800kg with all the gear).

If you are towing I'd get a turbo for sure (no mods = XT preferably), N/As are gutless.

Of course a lux or similar will be better at towing, but thats it for what you are planning.

Thanks um Alex or is it Mike? The combined weight of horse and trailer was around 1000-1200kg and the forrie still had plenty of go. It was the NA petrol too btw

When did you have a n/a 2.5?

Agreed with Alex - his car towed 1200kg unbraked and it was fine. We even chopped an alloytec commodore at a merge point

Dad's white one that I drove frequently before I got the XT when I still had the GX.
