just bought the last v2 type RA Sti r160 3.90 rear diff in stock at JWS.

cheers i've now tracked down a suitable diff from japanese wholesale spares

Yea most likely cost $880, and is identical to the diff im currently running, its a mechanical 2 way plated diff

did you get the drive shafts to suit it ?

exactly i already have the matching drive shafts!!

going to pull the old diff out today to inspect it, i'm expecting to see lots of metal shavings and scaring on the housing when i take the back cover off... so wrxless will be off the road till the new diff is fitted... probably be tuesday...

Im sure you could easily do it in a day.
