18" Wheel package

Im looking at upgrading my rims and seeing as i need new tyres soon anyway i might as well up to 18s instead of stock 17's.

I really like the Rota Grid and also seen a few rims on Tempe Tyres which look simular, just checking if anyone new any good deals going which i should look into before paying over a grand for new Rotas and tyres...

thanks :)

TROLLEY 23-07-2012 10:42 AM

Whatever you find on Tempe will probably be more expensive than Rotas to begin with, and a lot heavier.

so guess im looking at around 2k if i want the rota's and new tyres :(
sheeesh!

huggy_b 23-07-2012 01:08 PM

Keep glued to gumtree, you might find a 2nd hand set you can pick up.

Curious as to how much you thought a new set of 18's with rubber would cost?

TROLLEY 23-07-2012 01:08 PM

Alternatively if you want to save $200 you can buy some Ultrex rims from Rob @ www.ultrex.com.au

Then cheap out and buy crap tires.

Bee06 23-07-2012 03:01 PM

thought around $1300-$1500 all up, got a quote for tempe tyres $1400 for a package , doubt thats including freight though and not sure on tyre quality.

yeh i have had a look at the ultrex ones, they seem alright.

ImPreSiV 23-07-2012 03:03 PM

I can get you a set of Rota's in 18" with tyres for $1600. Tyres won't be Potenza's or Yokohama's etc

wrxwgn 23-07-2012 03:15 PM

Get Rota's from Vison R and try westy for tyres all up will be $1450
tyers will be durun

STiV6 23-07-2012 04:32 PM

I'm running a set of Ultrex rims on my gc8, they are good value for money and quite light, as for tyres I've got Nexen N6000. They are pretty grippy and good for the street, I think cost was about 186 per tyre for 225/35/ZR18.

But yeah +1 for Rob @ ULTREX PERFORMANCE - BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK IN PERFORMANCE PARTS

Bee06 24-07-2012 08:52 AM

Thanks for your help guys - much appreciated!
Impresiv - iv PMd you :)
Rob/Ultrex - PM'd

Got a quote back from Tempetyres - $1400 (+$200 Postage) for Giovinco TE37 (products) (comes with Falken 452 tyres  )

But i still prefer the Rota's or maybe even the Matrix from Rob, all depends on $$$

Also emailed westys wharehouse for tyre prices ... now the wait

Bee06 25-07-2012 09:06 AM

Whats the go with Durun tyres? (good or Sh*t?)
would i be better with Nankang or are they about the same quality/wear wise?

ImPreSiV 25-07-2012 09:08 AM

you obviously got the same message from Westy that I got. I'd go the Federal 595's ;)

Tyres are what connects your car to the road.

I'd be buying the best quality tyres you can afford rather than some cheap china rubbish.

teejay 25-07-2012 09:23 AM

Fuck the haters, China's finest is fine!

Bee06 25-07-2012 11:35 AM

I was trying to stay under $1600 for package hence looking at the Duruns or Nangkan?
As long as the tyres arnt overly slippery or going to wear out super fast ill be happy, im used to my old rear wheel drive 180Sx so im assuming AWD WRX doesnt need "as grippy" tyres?

Strubaru 25-07-2012 11:42 AM

the crap thing is that the good tyres that give you the best grip will wear out heaps faster than the cheapo tyres with crap grip

i had some zetum tyres on my foz, they're wern't actually too bad, around 140 a corner for 18X235's

huggy_b 25-07-2012 11:45 AM

Exactly, the magic of Subaru AWD will make your car stick like shit to a chrome shovel. Makes me wonder why they bothered putting fancy Dunlop tyres on them from the factory.

pmh 25-07-2012 11:50 AM

LingLong ftw - good enough for the taxis, getting you home in one piece after an epic night out (just don't fall asleep, or else you might get touched on way home)

UZI 25-07-2012 11:53 AM

Watching this thread as I'm in the same boat, any ideas as to what a set of 11 wrx rims would go for on gumtree? Would help pay for new rims.

Bee06 25-07-2012 12:02 PM

Looking like im buying the rotas and wheels from westys :) cant wait for arrival!

TROLLEY 25-07-2012 01:50 PM

Some have sold on here for around the $650 mark, granted that they are in good condition/not buckled/no gutter rash/etc I would say $400 would be a good price.

ImPreSiV 25-07-2012 02:58 PM

I sold my MY11 rims with tyres that had done about 8000kms for $1400. I've seen sets go for similar
Who is Westys? Do they give Wristys?
Westys Warehouse, Link is on the first page of this thread :)
dont know about the wristys you'd have to ask ;)

ImPreSiV 25-07-2012 03:33 PM

Westy's is Aaron West. He runs a tyre establishment from his shed at home. Keeps the costs down, so that way he can provide cheaper tyres. I got my tyres from him, Steph got hers from him, Mike got his Yoko's from him, many others have been there as well.

Rexxar 26-07-2012 09:09 AM

got my china shitters from him as well :)

does hella cheap tyre swap/change too

Infamous 26-07-2012 06:19 PM

How much will you be selling the stockies for?

Bee06 27-07-2012 02:45 PM

Rims and Tyres prob about $400. ill clean them up once i get my new ones and post some pics etc.
