The ARC is awsome because it has cars that reflect what you can/could get off a showroom floor, production based, with bit of tweeking, caging and tuning.
The WRC is awsome for the pure speed and driver skill factor. However it gets boring VERY VERY quickly.

7Mate had some older rally stages on when Colin Mcrae was piloting the RS liberty.

They went through the specs:
Power would be snuffed at by todays daily WRX's.
Suspension components were simple and effective.
Electronics... what are they? it has lights, ECU and a timer... not too much else electronic.

It may not have been Colin's most sucessful car but it was one of his favourite because of the raw performance and response not masked by electronic gizmos.

end rant.

They're messing with the ARC too. The outcome of rallies and what you see on TV is often very different to the actual race. Next year's ARC is only open to front wheel drive cars. (or RWD cars less than 5 years old, of which there are none suitable)
They already add extra weight to RWD cars over FWD to spoil any chance.
They have a points system where a driver with 2 wins and a second is behind a driver with one win and 2 second places/WTF?

Perhaps BRZ/AE86?

But IMO all cars should be eligible.

The FIA is pretty much run by a bunch of still necked Frogs, but eventually the manufacturers will apply enough presure to force possitive changes to the sport when they see spectators walk away because unless you have been to a European Rally stage you have no idea just how big rally is, and it is a fan base manufacturers never want to loose.
I also lament the glory days but I still love Rally!

The ARC is abit of Joke now. As for the WRC. since the french invasion started in about 2002. Its been boring. Fucking Frogs!

People wonder why classic cars (read; an E30 M3 is now a 'classic' rally car) are being built more often that outright cars.

Because the rules for new cars are bullshit. Someone can have triple the fun in a 250hp silvia than an evo or sti (which have no chance of winning anything more than a state title)

this is how its done.

A Perth WRX forum is about the worst place to find a current WRC fan . . .

Keep in mind the GFC has hit alot of motorsport hard . . .

It's a possibility. Remember that Subaru and Mitsubishi both turned their backs on the ARC when Toyota (as major sponsor) were allowed to rewrite the rules to suit themselves and won 5 championships in a row. Honda are now a major sponsor so I wouldn't count on anything else getting near the podium soon. Read the press releases from the Qld round, you'd be excused for thinking the Honda won the event!

I only went to one Rally Aus in Perth and that was the last one in 06. Spewing that I didn't go to previous ones, but at the time I wasn't allowed to cos of mother dearest
I was at the stop control so I didn't see much rally action but I got to meet the drivers. I was a huge fan of Solberg and Atkinson... for obvious reasons... Langley park was an awesome setup for the service park, was the first time I'd seen what goes on behind the scenes of a rally team. My favourite event of the whole rally was the Super Special Stage at Gloucester Park, loved seeing them get airborne over the tunnel!!

Since the government fucked up and got rid of rally oz I haven't paid much attention to the rest of the sport. It has become boring with less variety of cars and seeing the same person win all the time. I want to see the subaru and mitsubishi teams get back in it first before I start following it again. I also want them to bring it back to Perth!!
