944T + my car history

Thought I might as well chuck a thread on my other car, so you know who the random is down at coffee.

Started with a 03 WRX wagon on here about a year ago, had plans for it but didn't get time to do much more than just a nice stereo, until i hit skippy at 100km/h and wrote the car off (had an exam 15 hours later as well).

Have been using this as a daily, and will be until I pick up a new car.

Its a 1986 Porsche 944 turbo - 2.5l 4cyl. Front engine, rear transaxle,
250,000 km on the clock, and was totally stock.

Purchased from adelaide in january, drove it back over 2.5 days, which was a fairly epic trip. Drove through 200km of storm on the friday arvo (back end of the cyclone that hit qld early in the year). Wheel alignment and balance was really bad, had one tyre let go 600km out of adelaide on saturday morning. Had to climb an emergency phone pole (which wasn't working) to get phone reception. Won't forget sitting 3m above the nullabore in medium-heavy winds trying to find out where the closest tyre shop was. But as it was a weekend, nothing was open that could supply a 255/40/17 tyre, so we changed on the folded space saver (which was original - 25 years old and never used). Proceeded to drive 2000km on the space saver at 70-80km/h, until the other rear tyre decided to develop a bulge just outside of northam on the sunday arvo, and then somehow limped it home at 50km/h.

Now has;
4 point custom bolt in cage.
OMP record 2 seats
PMu pads ( H16-03 fronts - as used in V8 supercars) (HC+ rears)
RDA slotted rotors
Bilstein coil kit - special kit with offset mounts ect
Custom plates

Will be getting a motec, 3in exhaust and a new lsd in the next 6 months, and then a 2.7l or 3l built engine in 18 months or so.

Anyway, pics

Car is now finished, but don't have any half decent photos of it, so hence you get the shitty ones above.

:)

BALISTC 18-07-2011 09:13 AM

Such a nice car.. goes hard too!

mARC 18-07-2011 09:15 AM

Bro, you do know that your story is cool right?

I especially liked the part when telephone pole :p

Should be a weapon when your done!

teejay 18-07-2011 09:16 AM

Yeah I am a fan of the 944 Tom. Looks good with the cage in it.

blackwrxwagon 18-07-2011 09:26 AM

Cheers guys, noticed I parked infront of you at coffee on saturday TJ, the RS looked nice.

Yeah it should be good when its done, its only a bit faster than my old wrx in a straight line, but handles perfectly and stops really well. So should be able to get some decent times out of it

RUSSGT 18-07-2011 09:27 AM

Awesome! I cant believe the roo wrote your car off. Damage must be much worse than pics show!

How does the Porsche Handle?

Edit: Beat me with post about handling.

BALISTC 18-07-2011 09:30 AM

Porsche goes and handles brilliantly.

I went in it yesterday, still can't believe that for a 25 year old car, its as tight as a drum.. I've heard more rattles in a 5 year old Commodore or Falcon than in that thing!

blackwrxwagon 18-07-2011 09:37 AM

Roo managed to fuck alot on the car, both 3/4 panels, bonnet, A-pillar, screen, and dented/pushed the roof back towards me by about an inch.

Its a fairly tight car, has a tiny squeek on the sunroof when going over bumpy roads that will be getting fixed soon, but pretty decent other than that. Nearly as clean as Balistic (that car is utter porn)

blackwrxwagon 18-07-2011 09:39 AM

BTW Joe- Whats balistic like to insure as it is?

BALISTC 18-07-2011 09:42 AM

Ha ha cheers man, glad you liked the ride in my car :D

BALISTC costs me about $750 per year through Shannons, all mods listed on policy and with CAMS license discount.. our MY09 costs more to insure, and they're insured for the same agreed value!!

teejay 18-07-2011 09:44 AM

Yeah but Mandee's car isnt on limited used policy.... *boom tish*

I saw you walk in on Sat - was going to say hi, got distracted then had to bail.

BALISTC 18-07-2011 09:49 AM

Ha ha yeah you're right.. my car is limited on the policy to 5000km per year currently, but even on full use its not much more than that.. still under $1k for a 28 year old to insure it.

Just proves how far ahead they are technology wise and the dregs we get in AU.

jasonmurray 18-07-2011 10:10 AM

Nice Tom! How'd you go yesterday????

teejay 18-07-2011 10:10 AM

Cost of new Falcon

Cost of new Porsche

When you build to a budget, its what you get.

In Fords case, their 5 and 6 speed auto's are brilliant
Their current 4l motor is awesome if a little thirsty.

blackwrxwagon 18-07-2011 11:51 AM

Ah cheers Joe, guessing for a 21yr old with a fucked car history it might be a bit more, but will be calling shannons this afternoon to suss it out (first car was written off in the hail storm, 2nd was the wrx above - so haven't actually had an at fault crash but my record is pretty rubbish)

Went really well yesterday.. think I found my next car but have to find some more cash first, hence selling a bunch of stuff I've had lying around the place. Have to say balistic is such a well put together car, drove really well and its properly immaculate.

jasonmurray 18-07-2011 12:25 PM

2 words Tom...

DO IT!

BALISTC 18-07-2011 12:40 PM

Tom, speak to Chris Dean at Shannons.. they have my car history and specs on record and can quote it exactly as they have it insured.

If he's not there, try Matt Deluca or James Jarman.

ImPreSiV 18-07-2011 12:50 PM

Fucking DO IT!

Hi Tom *wave

Do you have an email address or phone number for any of them? would be alot easier haha

BALISTC 18-07-2011 01:01 PM

Christopher_Dean@shannons.com.au

teejay 18-07-2011 01:32 PM

pm bouz

blackwrxwagon 18-07-2011 03:39 PM

Had a chat to Chris and Shannons won't insure me for the car - too modified + my driving record of two written off cars (not my fault but they count) + some speeding fines from 3 years ago (currently have 9 points left on my lic).

Looks like its justcars

jasonmurray 18-07-2011 03:40 PM

Justcars... says Just do it!

MY99GT 18-07-2011 04:11 PM

i'm with justcars.. just because Shannons hated me for not buiding Fort Knox to store my car in overnight :( :(

LOL

awesome car dude massive fan of porshes!
would love to see it out at the track or something too

blackwrxwagon 20-10-2011 09:32 PM

So some of you would have noticed this out at the antilag no limits night or collie. Managed to pick up another set of rims so i can run semi's instead of shitty street tyres, so we have some hope of getting consistent lap times.

Also picked up a new daily a few weeks ago,

Basically;
06 E series HSV Senator
48k kms
#26 build number (first 20 were apparently mules)
Chucked some new QFM HPX pads and DBA 4000 discs on it today, as it was running the original brakes that were fairly dead.

Anyway, pics

If I can actually get my ass out of bed on a saturday again i'll come down to coffee and drop a skid
