Don't bother. Save up a few grand, sell RX and buy wrx. 1 sold for $6k today and another is advertised for $6.5K...

Rexes of the GC8 era can go for $8k. If you add up the money you will spend on coil overs, bars, brakes etc, PLUS the labour to install them (assuming you aren't doing it yourself/getting it done for free) then you're well on your way to that rex. And in the meantime your car won't have the same power anyway. AND you're just wanting to get a rex anyhow.

EDIT: 16 gajillion people posted basically what I said while I was reading thread+typing my reply.
Sometimes i get in over my head, i just wanted to do some work on my car and have fun but that takes money and i forget that quite often

Personally.
I had the same dilemma a couple of years ago in my rs.
No point in chasing power in an N/A as everyone else has said.

Personally, cap your spending on the rx at $1k.
That will get you rear swaybar, springs & a decent set of pads + fluid. Also youll only need a 2 1/4 inch system for exhaust. That will give it some poke n burble.

These alone will transform the car into a fun car to scoot around in, plus it will look and sound good.

Dont be to focused on a wrx just yet, learn to drive the pants off this thing first then when you add some hp to the equation later on, youll have:
a. An appreciation of how quick it actually is.
b. youll know what & how to drive the car :-)
ALPHA, GTB Liberty, Tiigga and 1 others like this.

$6k WRX has the supporting suspension/brake mods to handle the power though. Wouldn't trust a STI engine with RX gear stopping/turning you.

I dont agree with that. GC8's are getting on in age - finding a good clean unfucked cut is getting hard. My guy in Japan (not jws) said they are getting thin on the ground - Canadians and Americans love them to convert their non turbo 2 door RS's.

A normal WRX cut is still just a 205 as well. Sti cut = more dollars.

Another one on the do not mod a RX train.

Those mods listed are probably 3-4k worth.

Your car is worth what... 3-4k?

6-8k will get you a

-RS Lib or converted Lib with fruit (suspension at the least, probably 4 pots etc) - for reference see what my old RS had when it sold to lachlan - full of really good bits - rims, 4k worth of suspension, sti seats, boost controller, exhaust, intake etc etc etc, and was in really good condition.

-A GC8 needing love, but you have a RX which needs paint love anyhow so you are no worse off.
Strubaru and ALPHA like this.

Having modded an RX, it becomes an endless money pit - I'll join the chorus above.
