1972 xa gt sedan, about to be stripped for a body resto

from the factory it was wild violet, but sometime in the 80's it was given a 1/2 reasonable paint job in the colour it is now.

motor is original (matching numbers), 351, 4v heads, 11:1, very lumpy cam, demon carb, 4 speed toploader & rebuilt 9".

plan is probably to have 2 bonnets - one with a shaker & one without.

anyway, i will get more pics as its torn down over the next few weeks

I've been around GT's most of my life, but I learnt something about this one a few weeks ago when we took it to the guy whos doing the resto.

first thing he had to do was confirm it was an orignal gt before any $$$ is thrown at it & here is where it got interesting (and scarey for a 1/2 an hour or so...)

he noticed that the chassis number was not stamped in exactly the right spot on the shock tower, so as you would understand we were shitting bricks..

out came the paint stripper to see what was stamped where the number should have been - was this not a JG33 after all?? for the last 20+ years i was sure its was genuine.

long story short when the number was first stamped they got 2 numbers around the wrong way near the end of the number, so the whole chassis number had been crossed out & restamped by the factory.
so with that, the ok was given to start the resto!

edit: car is not at my house, just in case any dodgey cunts are reading this

So much love for the old GT's I do prefer the old XY but An old GT is a sexy GT! :D Are you going to go the original purple? Or stay the red it's at?

norwest_rumbler 15-09-2012 12:05 AM

probably go back to original

wild violet xagt sedan xagt xa xa xaGT GT XAGT 351xagt XAGT ford falcon GT

but its very tempting to just choose another colour from the chart, cosmic blue, yellow glow etc etc

If you read through some of the Holden/Ford muscle car forums you'll be amazed at some of the stories.

Insurance is an absolute must.

IMO going back to original is always good.

the purple IMO suits best! And I'm assuming you're keeping original motor? (Please say yes, please say yes)

norwest_rumbler 15-09-2012 08:56 AM
