Oh and fitted up a rear shelf STi light to clear the pits and obviously for insurance reasons (ha ha.. irony.) I couldn't really be bothered taking out the parcel shelf like you need to do, then cutting out a template etc etc.. so i just got the angle grinder and chopped the part off the rear shelf light that would need to sit 'inside' the parcel shelf to sit flush.. then mounted it with the drill. Looks perfect.

If anyones got a MY09+ and needs to do this brake light mod and wants to do it the 10minute way instead of the 4hour+ job taking out back seat, pillars and shelf etc, let me know and i'll explain in more detail over PM . Big props to Soksta for giving me a huge hand with finding out strut info and service manual info when I got the sticker on PRO WRC.
