Smile Rob's 4th turbo Subaru, might actually keep this 04 WRX Wagon

Hi guys,

Name is Rob, been around the forums a while on and off as I've dabbled in Subaru turbo models over the years.
Was drawn to them after my uncle "Spikey" sold me my first one.

Started with a beauty; 1990 Legacy GT Wagon, Dark Blue, Manual [2007 - 2010]
It was a blank canvas to begin with and modified it till I was really happy.

Ended in tragedy; I was T-boned and car was out of action for almost 2 months. Needed a car for work while waiting for the GT.

Next inline; 1999 WRX Sedan, White, Manual [2010 - 2011]
Another blank canvas, modified it pretty quickly as I was still trying to fill the void of selling my modified Legacy. Only lasted a year or so with this one, as I was having a child and thought a family car might be the way to go (at the right price).

Family car phase; 2004 Liberty GT Sedan, Maroon, Auto [2011 - 2012]
Blank canvas, pretty much just changed wheels and fixed a couple of things on it. Quick & Easy car to drive but automatic was so boring!

Back to what I like; 2004 WRX Wagon, Silver, Manual [2012 - Current]
I knew if I was to change car again I'd have to get a manual wagon. Initially hoped to find one with modifications to save me doing it all over again, but then the right one came up for the right price. Once again blank canvas, but this time I was going to take it slow.

First up I did a few maintenance things to get the car into shape, was running a little rough at times. Replaced fluids, spark plugs, k&n panel filter and upper engine clean made it run much smoother.

Started with:

Big aftermarket foggies on the front, didn't need it for suburbs.

Current pics:

Mods:

Engine:
GD Sti Top mount intercooler and Y pipe
GFB Stealth FX BOV
K&N Panel Filter
3" turbo back exhaust

Drivetrain:
Ultrex short shifter
Exedy HD organic clutch kit

Suspension:
Sti titanium front strut brace
Sti rear strut brace

Interior/Exterior:
18" CS9 WRX rims, 225/45 Linglong Greenmax tyres [cheap, soft, quiet and actually handle quite well]
STi front lip
STi front splitters
Painted skirts & rear pods [couldn't believe they missed the door arch strips when I specifically asked]
Option boost gauge
JVC head unit + mini amp/sub combo [good sound & saves space]
Baby Seat [Permanently in there!]

Future Plans:
200k service yay maintenance
Suspension - lowered springs or coilovers (still undecided)
Turbo upgrade
Fuel pump
Verso

Happy with the car and do plan to keep it for much longer than the last few. Don't drive to work anymore so get to enjoy the limited drives I have. Power steering and clutch just went out on me at the same time in the last month which scratched my from doing any mods right now but the need for speed isn't as strong as it used to be, having a child changed me :P

Welcome
Nice tidy & clean looking wagon.... Liking the cosmetic mods you have done...

How do the strut braces go in the wagon have you noticed much difference will body roll in the rear,
Is the rear brace easy to get in and out if you need room in the rear

Hi Tiigga,

The rear brace I noticed handling improvement immediately. The sti brace is easy to take in and out if need be, there are 2 bolts to undo just the bar. You can get quick release bolts as well, but I leave it in there 95% of the time so didn't need them.

Front brace was less noticeable but overall the car is a lot nicer to throw into a corner.
