Was playing around with turbo comp maps recently. Got bored and plotted one for my engine over a GTX3076R map. A little bit bummed out as i just realised Garrett released the "Gen 2" GTX series of turbos a few months after i purchased mine. They are a bit fatter and better suited to the 1.5-2bar boost range, extending the efficiency out wider.

Its airflow (both motor and turbo). Boost. And turbo efficiency. Turbo RPM. Engine RPM. Hypotheticall plotted over a garrett turbo map.

The green yellow orange red pink lines are engine RPM. What they plot is air flow on the X axis and boost on the Y axis. The round parts on the map ondicat where there compressor is most efficient. The more efficient it is, the less heat it puts into the air. Eg at 75% effieciency, 75% of the energy that goes into the turbine is used to compress air in the compressor, and 25% is used to heat the compressed air.

Orange line means it will be an absolute weopon at 6k RPM at about 1.5bar on a 2.5L. (What we already know about a 3076...)

Yeah. Basically you want your engine airflow to land in the centre of the peak efficiency of the turbo. As we know there is no one size of turbo that will be efficient over the whole range of airflow/rpms/boost that an engine might see. So picking the correct size turbo for your application is important. This is a good size for me, as indicated by the map. But say someone wanting a punchy street car would want the effieciency a little earlier on. (Maybe a 3071 or a dom 1.5/2.5) Someone wanting instant spool and a still decent midrange could look at a VF. And someone wanting an all out drag car pushing up to 2bar to redline might want bigger again. (35r)

Its ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First start today, car started up on the second crank. Car started better on the new ECU for the very first time ever than it did with the previous tune on the OEM ECU. Not bad for a base map i put together with absolutely no idea what im doing on a totally untested low mount setup.
