BALISTC's Big Brake Bonanza - The Install

Well I couldn't keep staring at the brakes sitting in my spare bathroom forever.. they needed to be installed on the car!!

2 weeks after they arrived, they ended up nestled behind my rims.

Thanks to Rob (Volatile Customs) for the workshop, and Jme and Adz for their help with the install!

To put it simply, they were easy as fuck to install. Being a dealer option in some countries, they were designed to be a direct bolt on, and I wasn't disappointed... like a glove!

Hoisted up.

All the parts ready to go.

Size comparison... MUCH bigger than the stock brakes!!

To remove the calipers, we had to undo 2 bolts on the back of the original calipers and the banjo bolt for the brake line Heres a tip: make sure the fluid doesn't get on any painted surface, as it eats the paint away!! Keep a can of brake cleaner nearby to spray any wayward drips that can't be reached with a rag.

Then the old rotors just slip off, and the new ones slip straight on!

The brackets for the Prodrives install straight where the old brakes came off, with the original fasteners.

WTF. Big 1 piece slotted rotors go in place of the stock rotors

We merely had to bolt the calipers (with pads installed) on to the brackets with the supplied fasteners, attach the brake lines with the original banjo bolt, and it was done! A fresh brake fluid bleed completed the install

After taking them for a drive around the block, the protective coating has worn off the rotors, as have all the dirty fingerprints.

They feel a LOT better, more progressive and they pull up a lot harder. They are also very quiet. I've not braked hard yet as they are still being bedded in, but I'm sure they'll be fantastic

They also look BLING

    how do these brakes compare to the STI Brembos?

    Also a point to note, the brakes came with alignment shims.. these are basically thin washers that are used to centre the caliper in comparison to where the rotor sits, as not all hubs are "square". These are to be installed between the hub bracket mounts and the brackets, if they are required.

    In this case, we didn't require the use of any shims during the installation, as the calipers sat perfectly centred on top of the rotors (meaning that the spacing between the rotor and caliper on each side, where the pad sits, was identical)... nice, square hubs! Probably due to the fact they've not been abused or heat cycled too severely during the cars life

    The rotors are the same size as the STi rotors (330mm), and the calipers are probably just a little bit larger than the factory Brembos.

    Not yet... and no, they're not bedded in yet either

    Only done about 20km on them since I've put them in, hope to get the car out a bit more this weekend so I can put some more km on them! Another few hundred km and they should be good to go.

    Yep they're about done... they feel fantastic!

    The initial bite is massively improved, and they feel a lot more progressive than the old brakes... the harder you press, the harder they stop!

    Braking distances are vastly superior too, you really get thrown into the seatbelt under hard braking now.

    AND they are really quiet!!
