Default Which tyre's for Track/Street

All,

I know there are numerous threads on which tyre is best etc, etc...

However I want a tyre that will be good enough for a novice on the track without breaking the bank!!

I've done some research on Tire Rack.com and have come up with the below options, would appreciate any input, I have a spare set of 02 Sti rims that these would be going on.

Hankook Ventus R-S3

Kumho Ecsta XS

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec

Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

cheers

Advan AD08 for sure.

Good review of 4 of those tyres compared directly

Even though the the Re11 wins its not by much. And after driving on both the re11 and ad08. I liked the ad08 the most.

I would have bought them if they were in stock in my size. But I ended up having to get the Ku36. Its definitely not as good as the ad08, but at least they are cheap.

The Dunlops seem the best value at $142.00 per tyre...

Hankook Rs2's are a good tyre Gav...Rs3's aren't here in Aus yet.

I'm in the process of having my second set of RS2's fitted, I like them a lot!
They did 40,000 km of road driving plus Collie & 2 skid pans.

Not too bad for a budget sticky tyre .....I was told I'd probably get 20,000 out of a set on the street seeing as they are a 180-200 wear index compound.

They're around $250 a corner fitted & nitrogen filled locally.

I currently have Dunlop Direzzas on as a road tyre. No complaints.
Good all round grip and not particularly noisy.

Would buy again.

I had the rs2 they went off after 2 laps on the tuning track..

IMO you really can't have both.. And I've done like so many others have said and that is to get a set of track rims with some rcomps..

+1

I currently run the Kuhmo's. As said, they are good for the price (but I'd prefer a set of Adrenalins for street + 17's + Yoko AD08 for track)

+1 for the Yoko ad08s. Awesome grip for track and still durable enough to last on the street. Perfect if your car is more of a daily/weekend car with the occasional skidpan or trackday.
