Default Free is best. (selling car info)

Just thought I would post up my previous experience with selling my car.

I had it listed on carsales for 2 weeks with lots of good pictures.

1093 Hits, 0 contacts from it. Price $50
Put it on gumtree Perth with exactly the same details.
Got 230 hits and 7 messages from interested parties.
Price : Free.

Just thought you might all like to know.. Never underestimate a free advertisement. I know I was completely stunned by where EVERYONE was seeing the ad. I thought oh yeah carsales.com.au the calls will be rolling in.. but not 1!. Good old gumtree

I would also be interested if you sold the car.
I advertised my scooter on gumtree and had a butt load of enquiries but not one single person actually called. Most enquiries from there seemed to be from people that could hardly grasp the english language. I also had it in the Quokka and had a few calls, but in the end sold it to a friend of my wife.

i was selling an old '79 bmw a few weeks back, had enquiries galore from quokka and the west, but the 1st dude who actually came out to see the car (and purchased it) saw the advert on car-sales.

i hate dealing with the public otherwise, so many people who never turn up!

My last two cars I've advertised on carsales, the Sunday Times and the Quokka.

Both were sold through the Times.

Carsales was great for getting hits, but i think its a website set up for dreamer teenagers to look at.

The quokka ads were more trouble than they were worth. One call was from a guy asking if the wrx i was selling would beat his mates vnss commodore, and would i swap it for a fully worked cortina plus cash.

Another call from the Quokka was from some retard who wanted to know if i would take 5k for the engine of a perfectly good wrx i had advertised at 25K. He wanted to use the engine to drop in a brumby and when i asked him what i was meant to do with the rest of the car he offered me the Brumby engine for free. No Bingo!

I found the Sunday times was best for me. Cheaper than carsales and far less dreamers and tyre kickers.
