since syn oil was already in the car why would they use something they dont recommend nor void ur warranty in the first place.

only logic i can think of is that u should use oil that would allow bedding of the rings. syn oils will also allow the bedding of the rings as so do semi or mineral oils.

as the guys on the oil forums says semi syn are good enough if u want to save $$ but what they did recommend is no matter what oil u use, regular and frequent changing of the oil is best. even if ur running on cheap mineral
