For my money they are a hypereutectic piston and not a true forged piston. But I dont think you will ever get a straight answer out of Subaru. Have to wait till one of the new owners screws too much boost into it and makes it go bang!!!! and it gets pulled apart.

At the end of the day, tune it sensibly, run a knocklink, and all should be good.
