ummm... how about the fact that rims are designed to centralise on the hub etc and the wheel nuts are tapered to keep them pulled in tight, the inside face of the rim is machined flat to sit flush etc etc etc blah blah. turning them around will mean the wheel nuts are not contacting properly and the wheel will not be central!!!
