Side of the road rule of thumb for tightening:
- as tight as you can with 1 hand if you are strongish bloke
- as tight as you can with both hands for women / girly man / WARPIO
Doing them up/undoing with your feet = bad.
I have actually cracked the socket on a star brace trying to get a rim off the wife's car after the tyre place rattled them on
That much torque just leads to stretched studs, stripped threads, and much frustration.
