Did it have bronze coloured metal particles in it, or a metallic shimmer or shine through the whole oil??

In regards to the clutch, a heavy tick through the pedal could also be a dodgy throw out bearing...does the tick feel different with the clutch in as opposed to out?

Does the sound come from the engine area? If so, is it

- The back of the engine? (clutch or gearbox noise)
- The middle of the engine? (main or rod bearing)
- The heads? (cylinder head noise i.e. lifters)
- The front? (tensioner or other ancillary noise)

Should be able to narrow it down pretty well, then it will be easier to diagnose.
