They cause problems when it's an oiled filter like a K&N. The problem arises when the oil makes it through the filter and f*#cks up the air flow meter. That said however, I used a K&N oiled filter for at least 2 years without any problems with the AFM.

An A'PEXi one is a dry type, shouldn't cause any problems.

Personally I think the stock airbox does an equally good job, just have to remove the intake resonator and chuck a CAI in the guard instead.
