i could understand 30km/h for the block arounf a shopping centre, unpractical and very unpoliceable, but i understand the logic.

ie: slower speed = less distance traveled to stop (if people are paying attention)

but slower speed in the country? wtf? perth the kalgoorlie already takes me 7 hours with a couple of rest breaks to prevent myslef nodding off.

and as most people know most country accidents are caused by alcohol and hitting trees at great speed near the road.

well saying slowing down might reduce fatalities. i fail to discern how much difference of forces there will be at a collision at 100km/h than a collision at 110km/h (or one at 220 km/h - forces in a head on crash). as i see it dead is dead. (*car may in smaller pieces at 220km*)

a far smarter idea would be to add buffer zones to all highways.

eg: kal to perth. in places where there is no towns clear areas (say 50m either side) of all large vegetation then ensure soft dirt and/or bushes to grow in this space.

this would give a large space for people to run into during an accident. sure it may be expensive when you require a tow truck to get your car out of gravel but my life is worth more than dirt in my radiator.

and it would not be hard to make. pair (or more) of D9's leave kalgoorlie, drive to perth flattening everything, turn around and drive home. Crap, i could even arrange for it to happen.

cant think of a solution for the south west, since i dont know that area that well. any suggestions?
