^^^ So what if your in 5th and your slowing down to a 2nd gear corner?? The engine would not be too happy with you unless you have the clutch in the whole time...

And the balance would not be that fantastic doing it that way IMO. The Idea of having the car in the correct gear for its speed meand if for whatever reason you need to accelerate or change direction suddenly the balance of the car is ALWAYS there, not just for the corner your aiming for.
