pete the upipe should just bolt onto the header.. so yeah u can bolt them together then wrap them if u want to...

but if u want to separate them for some reason then u would prolly have to remove some of the wrapping..

If ur getting them coated then i dont see why u would need to wrap them together. Or wrap them at all to be honest..

Ive heard that the sandblsating of the piping ensures the welds dont crack...
