A possible alternative for you to explore is to take out a caveat against the debtor's house. This has the effect of stopping the sale of his house until the caveat is lifted (by way of settling the debt) and I believe it can cause a freezing of other assets as well. Not too sure if the debt needs to be associated with the house or not (mine was, as I'm in the building trade). Application in person at your local clerk of courts.

I informed a bad debtor of my intentions to do this once a few years back, I was paid cash in full the next day.
