In relation to the RCA's, it's not uncommon to come accross a pair that are of sub standard quality. Most times these are not quality controlled out of the factory for purity and 'lemons' do occur. Sometimes you might have even bent or stretched it beyond repair without realising. Try another set of RCA's and double check they don't go anywhere near any other power cables.
