Sway bars do their best to limit body roll as you go around corners. Effectively what they are trying to do is keep the inside wheel in contact with the road. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sway_bars

Control arms are a piece which anchors the chassis to the steering knuckle. This allows the wheel to move up and down and also provides the axis point for the steering. Seen in this link at the top http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-arm
