Usually an EBC uses a "gain" control to attempt to bring boost on quicker. It does this by leaving the wastegate shut for as long as possible and then opening at the last possible moment. It helps that aftermarket solonoid is larger for greater and faster control of the wastegate. Obviously there are limits and you may get boost spikes.
