Changed to a longer high tensile socket head bolt and used a cap of a clamp to give it a flat surface to press on the cylinder. Tightened to "irresponsibly tight" as suggested by stace and it seems quite firmer now.

Doesnt sit in the centre of the cylinder bit on contact though, does this matter??
