I think its a bit of an attention thing. Same as when you meet up with friends etc, you say "hey I did this or that " or "guess what"
So its a way of promoting what is going on in your world/life etc and announcing it to friends/others etc..
Why would you do it? Because you want feedback of course, you like the attention. It may make you feel a little more important, it allows you to compare your "goings on" with others to see who gets the most feedback/attention...
You become a mini-celeb.
