Ok... so this must sound bad... but i bought my car from a young guy who hadnt had the car very long... and i dont think he knew much about it either. i checked over all the normal things, found that the car was pretty much stock apart from an exhaust and yellow top injectors. there was a rocker switch in the centre console, but it didnt seem to change anything when switched, so i never really bothered tracing it.
any who... the other night my car exhibited some rather unusual characteristics for a stock
ecu. so i thought, hey why not (finally) check to see if its a stock
ecu. turns out i have a unichip piggyback. it appears to be all wired up, and there is an orange wire running away towards the centre dash from it - maybe this goes to switch???
here is a pic...
there is a small secondary unit to the top left (tucked away) ... i'm guessing this is a boost module of the unichip? sounds about right because on cold nights/mornings, my boost spikes up to 5psi higher than normal
what could the orange wire be for? i havent had a chance to trace it yet...
i havent really found much on unichips yet, but has anyone (who has/had one) got any info or personal opinion of them?
i'm also not too sure of their advantage over stock... i've already found SOME info on the differences, but it still doesnt tell me much, just that the unichip is pretty shitty compared to some of the big name aftermarket chips.
personally, from what i've heard so far, best thing for me to do would be to remove the unichip...
