Default DIY Shifter bushing install

I thought I'd post up a quick DIY for front shifter bushings, as it's quite an easy mod and a fairly cheap way to tighten the feel of your box.

You'll need:
  • 12mm ring spanner
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 2x car stands
  • car jack
  • Bit of auto lube of some sort
  • Shifter bushings to suit 5spd/6spd as applicable

First things first, jack up the car and put in on stands. I always use the middle diff cover as a jack point, and put my stands under the chassis 'rails' on each side of the car. Its good to put a block of wood between the jack and the car, to minimise damage & scratching.

The shifter links to the gbox kind of on the passenger side of the driveshaft. The underside of my car was a little grubby, but pictured are the front shifter bushings. Undo the 12mm nut, and take off the little plate under it.

Pull off the linkage, and use a screwdriver (or the bolt it came off) to push the bushing out of the linkage.

Stock bushing (1 piece) vs the Kartboy replacements (2 piece)

Then, using a bit of lube, fit the bushings into the ring and slide the whole linkage back over the bolt.

Refit the metal plate, making sure that the 'flat' bit of the plate (pictured) lines up with the flat part of the bolt (not pictured). Then screw the 12mm nut back on and you're done!

I've seen both Ultrex and Kartboy shifter bushings go on fine, same process used.
