Done this a few times... works a treat but its usually very messy.

You should try removing the oil filter on a 1st Gen Honda CR-V... its stuck on the back of the block right up the top, you have to squirrel your hand up between a gap in the subframe to get the filter out!! Definitely the worst filter position I've seen, the Subaru one is a dream in comparison!
