Aren't 35s too short height wise, in terms of space between rim and top surface of tyre?

Years ago, when i went to replace my tyres which came with the car (had 225/35 18s), i was told there could be insurance issues because they were too thin and that insurance may not cover me in a crash. "Oh your tyres were too thin; the reason you bounced and crashed when you went over that pothole was because of a lack of dampening, caused by a very low tyre profile. And now you get no moniez" or something like that.
Similar to why suspension can't be too stiff.

Just going by what I was told. I changed to 16s when i realised that being safe (insurance-wise) and going up to 40's would mean bulk scrapage on a GC8.

Could be wrong don't hurt me
