Similar to why suspension can't be too stiff.

Just going by what I was told. I changed to 16s when i realised that being safe (insurance-wise) and going up to 40's would mean bulk scrapage on a GC8.

Pretty sure as long as the load rating of the tyre is within car manufacturers specs there shouldn't be an issue.
